About Ojai
First Impressions
Upon entering HumanArts Galleries you immediately
become aware of color, form, texture, whimsy, well made
and unusual art objects.
This is what keeps people coming back to HumanArts
since it began almost 30 years ago. Beyond the visual
appreciation though, it is the owners, Hallie and Stan
Katz, and their friendly staff greeting you and sharing
information about the artists that makes it more than
just an ordinary shopping experience. The momentum has
grown over the years and many loyal clients continue
to visit the galleries to purchase the unique art, furniture,
and jewelry for their collections or as gifts.
Our jewelry selection is amazing and showcases a variety
of gold and silver designs as well as a selection of
wedding rings, and non-precious items too. The furniture
and home accessories will make you want to redecorate
your house! There is something for every one, with prices
from $12.00 to thousands.

Meet
the owners
Hallie and Stan Katz have been involved
in the fine crafts business since the early 70's,
having had a jewelry school, gallery and store
for jeweler's supplies in the Los Angeles area.
They are members of the American
Craft Council, and Hallie served on the ACC board
of trustees. They exhibited their jewelry in many
juried shows around the country from 1980 to 1993.
Hallie, still designing jewelry,
oversees the HumanArts Gallery location at 310
East Ojai Avenue, while Stan's focus is running
the office and HumanArts Home at 246 East Ojai
Avenue. They do all the buying together.
In 2005 HumanArts will celebrate
it's 30th anniversary. It is the longest running
gallery in the Ojai Valley. To what do they owe
their success?
The Katzes have remained very selective
when choosing artwork, and they have provided
a comfortable and inviting space in which to show
it. They also have a friendly and helpful staff
who seek to educate the public, as well as offer
great customer service. They have a passion for
the arts and it shows.
Then again, the "magical"
Ojai Valley may have contributed to the popularity
of HumanArts, just a little...

While Hallie and Stan Katz were on a buying
trip in the east they went to Central Park
to enjoy Christo's Gates, February 20, 2005.

Stan took this great photo of The Gates,
saffron reflections on the lake, and New York
City skyline in the background. |

About Ojai
The Lost Valley of ShangriLa, as a famous old Hollywood
film dubbed the magical Ojai Valley. Known for its artists,
beauty of the mountains all around, mild temperatures
and restorative powers that attract visitors all year
round, Ojai is an easy drive from Los Angeles, Ventura
and Santa Barbara. There are spas, golf courses, hiking,
all kinds of special annual events to be enjoyed.
HumanArts galleries are located in Ojai's historical
district under shady Spanish arches in what's called
"the Arcade". There are interesting shops,
restaurants, and plenty of free parking nearby.
It's been debated whether "Ojai" means "the
nest" or "the moon" in the Chumash Indian
language. In any case, we feel very lucky to have landed
here!
