Fire & Light Originals was formed in 1995 as a
partnership between the Arcata Community Recycling Center
in Humboldt County, California, and a group of local
investors who wanted to develop an innovative plan for
using crushed recycled glass. John and Natali McClurg
purchased the company in 1999 and togehter with a team
of twenty people they handcraft beautiful dinnerware
in vibrant, transparent colors.
Bottles, jars and jugs are collected, sorted, washed,
and broken up. Next they are treated with colorants,
and fed into the furnace. After the mixture cooks all
night at over 2400 degrees and the color, temperature,
and viscosity is just right, it is ladled by hand into
graphite molds and pressed into Fire & Light tableware,
one piece at a time.
We recommend setting the table with a mix of the jewel-like
colors.
The bowls, plates and tumblers are dishwasher safe,
but not recommended for microwave use.
