Mikal Deese majored in fine arts and crafts at the
University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, but was inspired
to start working in metals on her own. In 1971 she moved
to Canada and later trained under German goldsmiths
in Vancouver, B.C. In 1982 she was awarded her graduate
gemologist certificate from the Gemological Institute
of America, and in 1985 moved to New Mexico where she
now resides.
"I enjoy making pieces which become small personal
treasures to their owners, very often wedding rings
- the symbols of their attachments - the jewelry they
don't feel right without...durable enough to last a
lifetime, and yet distinctive enough to become their
own."
Mikal's cast and fabricated rings can be special ordered
in sterling silver with 18K yellow gold, or all 18K
yellow and white gold, or platinum with gold accents.
