It's important to notice that Beppa's
jackets are not only gorgeous to look at and impeccably
sewn, but they fit well. Gretchen Girvin Clancy, the
self-described "technician," and Rebecca Edwards,
cofounder and chief designer have blended their talents
since 1984 when their company, Beppa, was formed. They
were each independent textile artists when they met.
Their fine wool flannel, cotton, or linen
jackets, coats and vests are inspired by their love
of ethnic textiles, Japanese antiques, buttons, and
art they see in museums. Like the rich colors and bold
detail of Northwest Coast Native American artwork Beppa
garments command attention, yet there is also the stark,
minimalist elegance found in traditional Japanese design.
A Beppa jacket becomes a favorite item
in your wardrobe because it works with jeans and Birkenstocks,
as well as with a black evening skirt and heels. But
be prepared to get some attention when wearing it!
