Christine Brennan, a painter and printmaker, earned
her BFA in Illustration at Rhode Island School of Design.
She moved to California in the late 1980's and her work
has become well loved by collectors and young people
just starting to invest in art.
Her narrative paintings incorporate a deep richness
of color and an amazing light source. Christine paints
in oil on wood or paper, sometimes incorporating goldleaf.
Often dreamlike, her work features symbolic references
and mysterious creatures, which prompt the viewer to
formulate a personal interpretation. The subtlety, quietness,
and sparsity along with the small scale of the work
also invites contemplation.
She explains " I paint what visually moves me...the
process is personally gratifying. While the painting
reflects my own state of mind, there can be many responses
from an audience."
Christine also creates prints from wood and linoleum
blocks that she hand carves. The image is printed in
black ink on white rice paper, then is detailed with
watercolors and colored pencil.
